Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AA)

AA (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) generally involves the absorption of radiant energy by neutral atoms in the gaseous state. To utilize this principal the sample is normally introduced from a solution by nebulizing the analyte element by drawing the solution, as a fine mist, into a flame, which desolvates and reduces the analyte element to its free atomic state. Radiation from a lamp interacts with the free atomic analyte species, resulting in a absorption of specific wavelengths which can be quantitated. This analytical technique is excellent for water analysis, soluble compounds, and elemental species which can be easily vaporized. AA is available in both our Rock Springs and Laramie, Wyoming Laboratories.
